Re: Windsor Chair

Message:

The intials NS stand for Nichols & Stone, of Gardner, Mass. They have been manufacturing Windson chairs since 1857 and are still in business. See http://www.nicholsandstone.com/

: I have just bought a Windsor armchair that I think may be very old. I wonder if someone can identify it for me. It appears to be of ash. It has seven sticks from seat to top and two sticks from seat to arm on each side, it has a small green leather seat with brass nails. On the underside of the bottom of the seat is a worn out tag which reads "From The House of Windsor Chairs." To the left is an emblem in the shape of a shield which depicts a fireplace mantel with one candlestick on each side, in the fireplace two andirons, and to the right of the fireplace mantel a Windsor chair, in the center of the fireplace opening are the initials NS in script. Stamped across the tag are the numbers "1900-5." Branded separately on the underside bottom of the chair is a chair with the initials "N" over "S."
: Can anyone identify the age, history and worth of this chair? Thank you.
